Buck Hoodlum review: Survival in Hoods Woods

Buck Hoodlum review: Survival in Hoods Woods Tube. Duration : 14.97 Mins.

The Buck Hoodlum is a large survival knife designed by Ron Hood. It is a full tang design with a full flat ground ten inch blade made from 5160 carbon steel. Handle scales are micarta and are well shaped and comfortable to use. Whilst this is a large knife it is well balanced, the balance point being the finger choil, just forward of the handle. As you would expect from Buck, this knife was extremely sharp out of the box. The knife comes with a nylon sheath which has obviously had a lot of thought put into it. It has many interesting features and carry options, and is fully ambidextrous. It's great to see a manufacturer realising the importance of providing not just a good knife, but a good sheath. I think this makes the Hoodlum a very good survival knife system. There is so much to talk about here that I had to do some serious editing to get this vid under 15 minutes. Sorry if some of the edits are a bit ordinary, but I really wanted to get this review out there. The knife's designer, Ron Hood, has a channel here on YouTube, check him out at www.youtube.com or visit his site at www.survival.com 23 June 2011 Sadly Ron Hood passed away on 22 June 2011. His work and this blade will ensure he is not forgotten. I will think of him whenever I use this great knife. RIP Ron. 25 June 2011. Keen eyed viewers may notice that the markings on this knife includes the wording "Hoods Woods" and that the knife shown in Nutnfancy's review has "Ron Hood" on the blade instead. In response ...
