One of my huge pet-peeves is poly or nylon rope that is fraying at the end and someone just ties a knot in it to stop the fray. A much better solution is to put an eye splice in the rope. No more fraying and a handy loop at the end of the rope. Technically, it's called a Single Braid Eye Splice-Brummel with two ends.
