Surplus Canteen Stove w/ Super Cat Mod

Surplus Canteen Stove w/ Super Cat Mod Video Clips. Duration : 11.77 Mins.

A look using a surplus military canteen stove set as both a water storage and cooking option. This particular set-up includes a standard USGI 1 quart olive drab plastic canteen, nylon canteen cover w/ alice clips, steel butterfly style canteen cup, and canteen stove. The "canteen stove" is designed to be used with military style Trioxane fuel tablets, but it's basically a wind screen that can be used with a variety of fuel sources. In my case, I'll be using it in conjunction with home-made cat can alcohol stove, aka "Super Cat" stove (detailed in a previous video). This stove uses common denatured alcohol along with a modified 3oz cat food can, and it fits quite nicely underneath the canteen cup. I manged to bring about half a canteen cup of water to boil in around 5-6 minutes. It took about 2-3 minutes to get around the right simmer for a decent cup of coffee. I'm rather happy with this set-up, and plan to use it in conjunction with my LBV (Load Bearing Vest), pistol belt, and military style butt-pack. This will part of a lower profile, surplus centered system for backpacking on shorter / faster moving hiking trips. This will most likely be during nicer weather when forgoing the sleeping bag and tent for say, a simple tarp and some trusty paracord. But I'll cover all that in a separate future video, so hold your horses ;)
